Independent Reading Reflection Free Essays

Over the summer I read five books for a total of 1308 pages. I read three fiction novels and two realistic fiction novels. For me one of my favorite books was the Dear John by Nicholas Sparks, which I had been wanting to read and finally got around to it. We will write a custom essay sample on Independent Reading Reflection or any similar topic only for you Order Now Right from the start of the book, you could tell it would be a summer love story, but what I didn’t realize was how much you could feel just by how Nicholas Sparks described their feelings. As John went off to Germany for war, I could feel Savannah’s sadness and fear as she thought this could be the last time she could see him alive. Not to mention how hurt John was to come home to find Savannah happily married and moved on with a new life. Overall, I loved how descriptive Dear John was and how you could feel like you were falling in love, just like them. Even though his books are usually stereotypical, The Choice also by Nicholas Sparks was a great book I read this summer. Instead of summer romance, this time it was forbidden love. When neighbors Travis and Gabby start off with a heated argument, Gabby soon finds herself with a strange attraction to the fun-loving, wild Travis. One problem, she has a boyfriend, Kevin, whom she now has to choose between him and Travis as her love for him grows more and more. I loved this book because like Dear John, it had a love story but instead, it started out with hatred and disapproval of each other but slowly grew to their love. Also in The Choice, Nicholas Sparks used great description of feelings and sights. For example, parasailing high above the sound he described exactly what they saw and felt and I felt like I were right there with them a hundred feet above the water too. I can’t leave out that first night they met; Gabby was fuming at Travis when she thought his dog got her perfect, purebred collie pregnant. Not to mention the night Travis first kissed her and she suddenly thought what life could be like with Travis, instead of Kevin. I chose Dear John and The Choice as my favorite books from this summer because they both had great description and plot lines, even if you could somewhat predict the ending . I love when I can picture everything that is going on in a book and remember almost every detail, and these both did that for me. How to cite Independent Reading Reflection, Essay examples

Perks Of Being a WallFlower free essay sample

As a freshman in high school, I looked around the hallways and all I could see was one book cover. It had red letters in a girls preppy handwriting that compiled the background and the big black letters that created the title; The Perks of Being a Wallflower. I could not convince myself to pick up the book. It was a cliche, a work of gossip and the media. I did not want to fall into that trap. Finally, I walked into english class one day and the book was placed on each desk. I groaned in agony of the thought of having to read such a stereotypical book, but I complied. Dear Friend, I am writing to you because she said you listen and understand stand†¦ the book started, and continued with please don’t ask who she is because then you might figure out who I am. Charlie, the main character, begins his plight of struggles little by little. He falls in love with his best friend, doesnt understand what love really is, and is abused by love all at the same time. I finished the book in a day. It was glued to my hands at all times, I had to know the next line and the next thought. But I found, as I came out of the enteral place that comes with reading, that I still did not know the answers to all the questions possessed in the book. I kept asking why does bad stuff happen to good people? What are the true Perks to Being a Wallflower? I am infinite Charlie says, that is true. But so are the questions that he caused us.

Free Essays on The Book Of Job

â€Å"Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked I will depart. The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away; may the name of the Lord be praised† (Job 1:21). The book of Job is significant to both secular and non-secular groups as a pillar for many fundamental truths. The story of Job’s extensive amount of torment he faced, and persevered through, serves as a prime example for many to follow. Although the book is chiefly considered a model for Christian ethics, it has been explored by both secular and non-secular groups. Contrary to popular belief, the book of Job is not only about the Lord’s servant and the many ways he suffered. This essay will identify why many believe that this book is only concerned with Job’s sufferings, and in contradiction show that there is an abundance of issues within, with many lessons to be learned. Job was a man with what the public viewed as a perfect life. He had a wife, seven sons, and three daughters. In addition to having a well rounded family, his wealth continued in his possessions that included seven thousand sheep, three thousand camels, one thousand oxen, and five hundred donkeys. While Job was a family man, he was also known very well in his community, and sometimes even considered the greatest man of the East. More important than all of this, Job feared God and shunned evil. The Lord said to Satan in chapter one, â€Å"Have you considered my servant Job? There is no one on earth like him; he is blameless and upright, a man who fears God and shuns evil.† Satan was sure that no matter how much Job loved the Lord, if Job were to lose everything he had, surely he would curse the name of the Lord. The Lord proceeded to tell Satan that everything Job has is in his hands, but he was not aloud to touch the man himself. Satan proceeded in attempting to destroy Job, allowing his oxen and donkeys to be stolen, burning his sheep and servants, having his camels carried away, kill... Explore How Budget Deficits and Economy Health Relate

Explore How Budget Deficits and Economy Health Relate There is a relationship between budget deficits and the health of the economy, but is certainly not a perfect one. There can be massive budget deficits when the economy is doing quite well, and, though somewhat less likely, surpluses are certainly possible during bad times.   This is because a deficit or surplus depends not only on the tax revenues collected (which can be thought of as proportional to economic activity) but also on the level of government purchases and transfer payments, which is determined by Congress and need not be determined by the level of economic activity. That being said, government budgets tend to go from surplus to deficit (or existing deficits become larger) as the economy goes sour. This typically happens as follows: The economy goes into recession, costing many workers their jobs, and at the same time causing corporate profits to decline. This causes less income tax revenue to flow to the government, along with less corporate income tax revenue. Occasionally the flow of income to the government will still grow, but at a slower rate than inflation, meaning that flow of tax revenue has fallen in real terms.Because many workers have lost their jobs, their  dependency is increased use of government programs, such as unemployment insurance. Government spending rises as more individuals are calling on government services to help them out through tough times.   (Such spending programs are known as automatic stabilizers, since they by their very nature help stabilize economic activity and income over time.)To help push the economy out of recession and to help those who have lost their jobs, governments often create new social programs during times of recession and depression. FDRs New Deal of the 19 30s is a prime example of this. Government spending then rises, not just because of increased use of existing programs, but through the creation of new programs. Because of factor one, the government receives less money from taxpayers due to a  recession, while factors two and three imply that the government spends more money than it would during better times. Money starts flowing out of the government faster than it comes in, causing the governments budget to go into deficit.

Writing for journalists(feature story- Valentines Day) Article

Writing for journalists(feature story- Valentines Day) - Article Example People in the fashion industry have the tendency of maximizing their profits by raising the prices of the products needed by their regular customers. In relation to the more awaited day, a study by the industrys trade group has approximated that about 150 million love and valentines cards are sold in the USA during this period. The coming season is characterized by lots of people going for outs in open parks where they express their affections to one another and some even go an extent of proposing to their loved ones. The activities of the day will have an impact on the environment in several ways, the small pleasures that the people will engage themselves into will have some environmental impacts. The day should, therefore, have no reason for the match of emotions; therefore, it will not be a new thing for the dead tree greeting card to boost in its operations during this day. The pains that lover have had in the past vanish quickly and the circulation of the valentines cards usually goes on as nothing much has ever happened with lots of negligence of what happens to the environment through the celebration. It becomes very difficult for an environmentalist to understand the reason lots of people and especially in the Americas risk paying a lot in terms of carbon tax by using the shiny cardboards in sending love notes to their lovers. The most annoying thing is that, lots of customers know the impacts of their activities and trying to tell them to stop the practices is as good as not telling them. In most of the advanced countries, the card manufacturing companies have made advances in designing carbon friendly valentine cards, the companies have insisted that they have come up with carbon- neutral cards because they have paid for enough carbon credits. Having known the effects brought about by the events of the day to the environment, there are several things that I will advise those curious for the day to avoid doing, one of the

Islamic Art Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Islamic Art - Essay Example For this reason, construction of mosques as well as other buildings related to religion was considered the responsibility of rulers of that time. Therefore, the patronage of caliphs played an important role in the development of early Islamic art forms. This patronage allowed the birth of Islamic architecture, the decoration of religious buildings and their furnishings; a trend that was previously unknown to the world. In contrast to the art forms of other regions which utilize sculptures or paintings as the predominant form of expression, the Islamic art utilizes decoration as a medium or art and expression. The initial manifestations of this type of art work are seen in monuments and mosques of those times, which portray decoration that is extraordinary and expensive in nature. Due to the vital position of mosques in the Islamic society, decoration as a medium of expression was applied on these buildings during the early period of Islam   (Lapidus 97). Another unique art form ter med calligraphy also started to evolve; this time into patterns that were not only meant to communicate the message of Islam, but also to contribute to the aesthetic value of mosques and other religious buildings. This decorative use of the sacred texts in buildings that was religious in nature paved way for various art forms that were aesthetically appealing to a wider audience. Hence calligraphy started finding place in objects like stone, wood, glass, pottery and textiles. Dome of the rock was built in the seventh century.
